4-Day Galapagos Land Tours: an Honest Comparison

How we picked these three (and what we left out)

Our August 2026 census of multi-day, land-based Galapagos tours found seven different 4-day products. We publish only tours whose price we could verify on the product page itself and that offered free cancellation at the time of the check — day-by-day plans in the islands get reshuffled by the National Park's visitor-site allocations and by the sea, so the freedom to cancel is not a nice-to-have here, it is the feature. The three tours on this page each solve the same four-day brief in a different way: one buys the lowest price with full board on Santa Cruz, one buys a premium hotel with pool and sea view, and one skips Santa Cruz entirely to base you on San Cristóbal.

One honest note before the table: a four-day trip is really about two and a half days on the ground once you subtract the arrival and departure flights. That is enough for a genuine taste of the islands — it is not enough to 'do' the Galapagos, and no four-day listing that claims otherwise is being straight with you.

The three contenders, one by one

Santa Cruz & Bahía with full board (from €553.89). The lowest verified starting price of our whole census, 3-to-7-day tours included. You are based on Santa Cruz and the programme includes a bay day on the water; full board is stated in the listing, which at this price is the headline.

Santa Cruz with a premium hotel, pool and sea view (from €650.11). Same home island, different philosophy: roughly a hundred euros more buys the comfort tier — the listing sells the hotel as hard as the islands. Meals beyond what the listing states are on you, so read the inclusions before comparing it to the full-board option on price alone.

San Cristóbal island tour (from €832.14). The outlier: one island, done properly, with hotel nights included. San Cristóbal has its own airport a few minutes from town, so you skip the Baltra bus-ferry-bus chain entirely — the trade-off is that you see one island's sites rather than hopping between several.

What no listed price includes

Whatever the tour page says, plan for these on top. The Galapagos National Park entry fee is $200 per adult ($100 for children under 12), doubled to that level in August 2024 and charged when you land in the islands. The Transit Control Card costs $20 and is issued at the mainland airport (Quito or Guayaquil) before you board; tourists can stay a maximum of 60 days per calendar year. That is $220 per adult, typically in cash, before your trip has technically started.

Flights from mainland Ecuador are never included in these tours either: there are no direct international flights to the islands, so everyone connects through Quito or Guayaquil onto a domestic flight of roughly two hours with Avianca Ecuador or LATAM Ecuador. Price them separately before you compare tour prices — they change the total more than the difference between the tours on this page.

Arrival logistics: Baltra chain or San Cristóbal doorstep

The two Santa Cruz tours normally mean flying into Baltra: from the airstrip you take a bus to the Itabaca channel, a short ferry across, then a bus down to Puerto Ayora — allow about an hour and a quarter door to door. Many packages include this transfer, and it is one of the places a package genuinely earns its price; confirm it in the listing rather than assuming. The San Cristóbal tour flips this: the airport sits a few minutes from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, so on a four-day clock the saved half-days are real.

On timing: the Charles Darwin Foundation's own framing splits the year into a warm season (January to May) and a cool season (June to December). For a short trip the honest version is that neither is wrong — warm means warmer, calmer water and short downpours, cool means livelier seas and cooler snorkelling, when many operators recommend a wetsuit that is usually not included. No month guarantees wildlife: nothing does.
